About Maria
Hi, my name is Maria Alessandri. Many (many!) years ago I discovered that my communication skills were shot, and it was negatively impacting my relationships, at home and at work.
As a professional, and a mom, I struggled to feel heard, respected and followed. My goal is to help other working parents uncover communication blocks that erode trust and connection so they can be better leaders and parents.
When I am not speaking, you can find me at the barn leading sessions and workshops through my Horse and People Project, or at home working on my first book!
I look forward to connecting and being part of your next event so that together we can smooth out the communication kinks getting in the way of true leadership and connection.

Ask Like You Mean It: What Horses Teach Us About Communication and Leadership
“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place” – George Bernard Shaw.
We all think we are great communicators and yet, we struggle with connection at home and at work. In her talk, Maria Alessandri, communications expert, reveals what horses have taught her about leadership and parenting: that true connection begins with clear communication, emotional awareness, and the courage to change patterns that no longer serve.
Seen through the eyes of a horse, and with personal stories of leadership and parenting highs and lows, Maria’s talk will inspire leaders and parents to re-think the status quo.

Block, Don’t Punch: What Horses Teach About Healthy Boundary Setting
Boundary setting is often spoken about, but do we really know what that means?
It goes far beyond “just say no”. Can we learn how to ‘block’ or set limits rationally rather than ‘punch’ and get into heated arguments? From her work with horses, where boundary setting is crucial for safety, Maria teaches that boundaries aren’t about punishment or control; they are about communication and mutual respect.
Maria will teach participants how to set clear, grounded, calm and intentional ‘blocks’ for healthy emotional and physical boundaries.

Re-direct, Don’t Retreat: The Art of Negotiation, Equine Edition
In life, leadership and negotiation, we often find ourselves at a standstill, with a colleague, a team, or even a teenager.
Options are usually to ignore the situation, dig in and fight, compromise too soon, or retreat completely. But what if there was another way? Drawing on lessons from working with horses in the round pen, Maria Alessandri explores the power of redirecting rather than retreating.
Through personal stories, practical tools, and audience interaction, participants will discover how to improvise, adapt, and influence, thereby reframing situations to create win-win outcomes.
